Chengdu Private Tours, Pandas & Teahouses
Chengdu is the most relaxed large city in China, and the only one where the main attraction is an animal. The pandas are genuinely best at opening time — they eat and move in the first two hours, then sleep for the rest of the day — which is why we build the morning around them rather than fitting them in later.

What we do in Chengdu
Panda Base first thing in the morning, ideally in the first hour after opening. Then the city slows down: People’s Park and a century-old teahouse, the Jinli and Wuhou Temple area in the evening, and Sichuan opera if you want the face-changing and fire-spitting. Leshan, with the 71-metre Giant Buddha carved into the cliff, is a full day trip about two hours away by high-speed rail.
Chengdu experiences you can add
- Sichuan opera at Shufeng Yayuan — face-changing, fire-spitting and a make-up chair if you dare.
- Panda keeper for a day — feed, clean and stand beside the pandas with their keepers.
