Chongqing Private Tours & the Mountain Megacity
Chongqing is the city that photographs best at night. Built on hills where two rivers meet, it stacks vertically rather than spreading out, and the result is a skyline that looks computer-generated. It is also the gateway to Zhangjiajie, which is why it appears on most of our longer routes.

What we do in Chongqing
Hongya Cave after dark, when the eleven-storey stilt-house complex is lit and the river below carries the reflections. The Liziba monorail, which passes through a residential building. A Yangtze cableway crossing. And hotpot, which in Chongqing is a religion rather than a meal. Dazu rock carvings, a UNESCO site about two hours west, is the quieter cultural counterweight to the neon.
Chongqing experiences you can add
- Hongya Cave by night, Jialing cruise — the stacked city lit up, seen from the river below.
- Hotpot from the wok — fry your own chilli-and-pepper base, then sit down and eat it.
