The big three, and how to time them
Every one of these is a half-day. What separates a good visit from a wasted one is rarely the site — it is the hour you arrive, the ticket you did or did not book, and the gate you chose.

- Book the ticket first. Forbidden City releases about seven days ahead; Terracotta sells out in peak season; the panda base queues at the gate.
- Arrive at opening. All three reward the first hour and punish 11:00.
- One big site per day. Two of these in a day means one of them is a corridor you walked through.
For the fourth big one — the Great Wall — the question is not timing but which section.
